Introducing The Expert, A New Digital Platform For Interior Design, Founded By Designer Jake Arnold

Entering into a new business with your childhood best friend might sound risky to some, but for British, Los Angeles-based interior designer Jake Arnold and tech entrepreneur and high school friend Leo Seigal it was a no brainer.

The 30-year-old Arnold, who moved to Los Angeles from London years ago, is a celebrity interior designer who has designed homes for Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, Rashida Jones, Aaron Paul and Sophia Bush. When the country began lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the duo moved in together. It wasn’t until Arnold began receiving hundreds of direct messages on Instagram from people all over the world asking for design advice.

“I was blown away by the number of people every single day messaging Jake with design questions as if he’s design Siri,” Seigal says. “Jake didn’t have the time, as he was working with his retainer clients.”

Seigal, who has helped launch several startups in Silicon Valley and beyond, and Arnold came up with the idea to create Zoom consultations for a fee

Repurposing a digital kitchen scale for neuroscience research: a complete hardware and software cookbook for PASTA

Custom codes were written for the NodeMCU ESP-32S board (C++, Arduino), the control computer (Python), and for processing of collected data (R). All code can be found on corresponding GitHub repositories.

C++ code based on the Arduino framework which runs on the NodeMCU ESP-32S board simply receives samples from the HX711 IC and forwards it to the computer through its USB connection. Communication with the HX711 IC is done using the HX711 library6, making the code portable to other targets specified in the library’s documentation, including typical AVR-based Arduino boards, simply by adjusting the appropriate pin definitions. The code can be found on GitHub7.

Before starting the experiment, a WAVE sound file named startlesnd.wav needs to be constructed for the entire duration of the experiment, with short pulses of white noise with or without prepulses, separated by a silence of appropriate duration, depending on the experiment that is being performed. We used Audacity to generate this file according to the specification detailed in Supplement 1. It is available as Supplementary Audio Material 1.

The computer runs Ubuntu, a Linux distribution, with PASTA Chef, a Python script on the computer, which automates the entire startle experiment and

What The Rise Of Digital Nomads Means For Destination Real Estate

Rodolfo Delgado is the Co-Founder & CEO of Replay Listings, the first platform to find apartments for rent in NYC focused on unedited videos.

Brenda, a computer scientist previously based in New York, recently substituted her daily subway commute for a 30-minute breakfast with a breathtaking view in Dubrovnik, Croatia. She is a “digital nomad,” which means she uses telecommunications technologies to earn a living and perform her work remotely.

A digital nomad’s work is location-independent. They often work from foreign countries, generally conducting their business in co-working spaces, coffee shops or libraries. With almost 11 million American digital nomads as of 2020, this 21st-century subset of working professionals is on the rise.

A Growing Demographic

The quick adoption of technology, coupled with the current global circumstance, has facilitated the digital nomad’s rapid growth. With a 49{ac967ad544075fb2f6bcea1234f8d91da186cac15e616dc329e302b7c7326b8c} increase in American digital nomads from 2019 to 2020, the world will witness a shift toward remote work and a boost in this population.

In Europe, the “first” digital nomad village opens its doors in February to attract location-independent professionals looking to enhance their work-travel experience with an ocean view that is bound to inspire. It began with Gonçalo Hall, who

We’ve got a full slate of digital and in-real-life events planned for 2021, for the best community in real estate. Up next: Connect Now on February 18. Save the dates and register now!

Before taking the helm a year ago at Move Inc., the News Corp. subsidiary that operates the online search portal, David Doctorow had served in executive roles at eBay and Expedia and could see the similarities — and the opportunities to fill consumers’ needs — between those marketplaces and online real estate.

Doctorow spoke with moderator Clelia Peters at Inman Connect on Thursday, in a session called “The Evolving Ecosystem of Real Estate Search and Transactions.”

“Real estate is special,” Doctorow told conference attendees. “It touches everybody’s life. It’s a really important human need. So the purpose that we’re after — to make a difference on people’s shelter — is meaningful in the world and that’s part of what was appealing.”

He said when he considered the state of the real estate industry and put himself in consumers’ shoes, his takeaway was this: “Even after 25 years of digital real estate, it’s still too hard,” he said.

“We haven’t helped consumers alleviate the fear that

Steps To Making Real Estate’s Future More Digital

Amit Haller is the Co-Founder & CEO of Reali, a high-tech, high-touch real estate company founded in 2016.

Before the pandemic, what defined the modern era more than digital transformation? The thinking goes that as more of life goes online, the more people and businesses benefit. But for one of the world’s biggest asset class – residential real estate – the digital transformation had been sluggish at best. At worst, defiant. After all, while fee structures in other industries have gone down thanks to increased technology – and reduced overhead – 6{ac967ad544075fb2f6bcea1234f8d91da186cac15e616dc329e302b7c7326b8c} listing fees are still prevalent in real estate.

Then Covid-19 hit, and overnight agents needed to figure out virtual and digital solutions for everything. Open houses disappeared. Buyers couldn’t figure out how to visit a house before placing an offer. Sellers didn’t want home buyers trekking through their front doors.

Out of sheer survival, companies adopted digital tools quickly: Keller Williams put together an entire playbook on how to handle Covid-19 and go virtual, as did many other brokerages. Without a doubt, the pandemic has created the biggest technology pressure most organizations have ever experienced. As with all innovations borne of necessity, the old way of
